From the East

Brethren,

As we move into the second month of the year, I want to take a moment to thank all my Brothers for the energy and commitment you've already brought into 2026. January is often about setting direction and building momentum, and because of your support, we've done that.

In February let's stay grounded in our priorities by attending planned events organized by our Outreach Committee, participate in Degree work when needed and take part in helping upright men join our wondeful Fraternity.

Thank you for what you do to move our Lodge forward. I'm confident that if we continue working together with clarity and purpose, we'll make this a strong and meaningful year.

Let's keep it going.

From the West

Greetings from the West, Brethren,

One of my ancient duties is to "pay the Craft their wages". While operative masons received coin, our speculative wages are found in Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.

I want to personally thank the Brothers who are stepping up for our upcoming degree work and for the Competition Team; your dedication to the ritual is the cement that binds us. I also encourage those who haven't been to Lodge in a while to "travel" back to the West. We have a number of candidates who are currently progressing, and your presence as mentors is vital to their journey from darkness to light.

We are excited about the upcoming Boca Bash at Spanish River Park on February 21st between 10am and 3pm. This is in support of the American Disabilities Foundation. While volunteers are needed to assist, we encourage all to attend to represent our Lodge and District.

Fraternally,

Derik Brasher

From the South

Brothers,

As we approach a new month let us not forget our Masonic obligations of charity, friendship,  and brotherly love. The JW station reminds us that Masonry is not only about labor but also refreshment both in mind and spirit. Please remember to attend our meetings and events for the month as your participation and support make a big difference in our Lodge.

Fraternally,

Jesse Mercado

Fraternal Greetings Brethren.

Fraternal greetings Brethren.   Our Worshipful Master ruled and governed the lodge exceptionally well during his first month in the East.  If one didn’t know better, it would have seemed like he was a Past Master at one time.   Our officers also did a wonderful job opening and closing the lodge.  I hope that this is an omen for a very successful year at Boca Delray 171.  On personal note, I am enjoying my 14th year as Lodge Secretary.

We unfortunately lost four Brothers at the end of December to Non-payment of Dues but have initiated four EA’s in January.   We will most likely Raise several this year as well.   Masonry does not solicit members but if you know of a proper well-deserving candidate you may ask him once if he would like to drop by and visit the lodge.   Years ago, I personally knew a Mason who thought he was not qualified to be initiated because his very close friend never invited him to visit a lodge.   At that time, the protocol was that a man desiring to become a Mason had to make that desire known but had to ask three different times before being invited to drop by.    Today, as with everything else, rules have eased up.  As closure to this story, the man finally confronted his friend and said, “I’ve asked you twice if I could be a Mason and never received a reply.   Am I the wrong sort of person to become a Mason”?   The friend said, “now you have asked three times”.  How many good men were left out during this period of time.

With W:. Otto serving as Lodge Instructor and Mentor we are in good hands, but it will be a tough act to replace W:. Angstrom as he pursues new endeavors in Ohio.   We all wish W:. Angstrom much success and happiness.   He is planning on visiting Blue Lodges and the Scottish Rite in his new Jurisdiction and possible assist them as needed.

I hope that everyone appreciates the new paint job given to the collation room and related areas.   It’s been eleven years since that area has been painted.   Hopefully this year we will see some progress on our parking lot and library.

The Masonic Home was grateful to us for paying for a much-needed defibrillator.   We received a very nice letter of appreciation in return and another letter thanking the lodge for the Holiday cooky gift for office personnel.   Hopefully we will have a good turnout for this years Home Pilgrimage on March 21st, 2026.   On this day lodges throughout Florida visit the Home.   Tours of the Home and grounds are offered as well as a pleasant luncheon.

Please do not forget to remit yearly dues, statements were mailed out three months ago.

Chaplain's Corner

Brethren,

President’s Day holds significant meaning for Freemasonry as it celebrates the values of leadership, service, and the preservation of democratic principles embodied by past presidents.

In California, President’s Day is spelled this way, Presidents’ Day, with the apostrophe AFTER the “s” to honor all Freemasons who were presidents namely James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, James Polk, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, James Garfield, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and Gerald R. Ford.

We as Americans and Freemasons view this day as an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of these leaders to the nation and to Freemasonry’s ideals of brotherhood, charity, and personal growth. It’s also a time for Freemasons to reaffirm their commitment to upholding the virtues exemplified by the leaders who have shaped the course of history, both within the fraternity and in the broader context of society.

May the GAOTU continue to watch over all those in need wherever so dispersed around the globe.

LANDMARKS OF FREEMASONRY

Based on Article XIII, Section 2 of the 2023 Digest of Masonic Law of Florida, the following are recognized as Landmarks of Freemasonry by the Grand Lodge of Florida:

  1. Belief in the existence of one ever living and true God.

  2. Belief in the immortality of the human soul and a resurrection to a Future Life.

  3. The Volume of the Sacred Law, open upon the Altar, is an indispensable furnishing of every regular Lodge while at labor.

  4. The Legend of the Third Degree.

  5. Secrecy, which includes:

    • Words, signs, and tokens for recognition,

    • That every Lodge must be duly tyled,

    • Examination or avouchment of visitors,

    • Matters that cannot be written.

  6. Symbolism of the Operative Art.

  7. Qualifications of Candidates:

    • Must be a man, free born, of lawful age,

    • Of good repute and well recommended,

    • Without physical defects that inhibit learning or advancement (unless Dispensation is granted).

  8. The division of Ancient Craft Masonry into three classifications:

    • Entered Apprentice,

    • Fellow Craft,

    • Master Mason.

  9. Government by a presiding officer titled Grand Master, elected from the Craft, with prerogatives including:

    • Presiding over all assemblies of Masons in his jurisdiction,

    • Supervising and regulating Masonic affairs between Grand Lodge Communications,

    • Granting Dispensations,

    • Making a Mason at sight.

  10. The necessity for Freemasons to congregate in Lodges.

These Landmarks are foundational and binding within Florida Freemasonry, although the Grand Lodge reserves the right to amend or reconsider them by appropriate constitutional means.

The Grand Lodge of Florida developed this comprehensive course of study to instruct Brothers on the proper procedures and responsibilities of each Lodge Officer, and how to conduct the important business of their particular Lodge. Courses are presented by the District Chairman, and a certificate is issued upon successful completion of all 15

modules.

The Grand Lodge of Florida provides Master Mason Examinations to be open book type exams designed to give any Master Mason the opportunity to increase his knowledge of some of the Ancient Tenets, Rules, and Regulations of Masonry. They contain a mixture of multiple choice, True or False, or essay questions which should be answered on the answer sheet, as provided in the exam downloads.

The Grand Lodge of Florida encourages all members of the Craft to further their knowledge of Lodge operation, especially those concerning the Elected and Appointed

Officers of each particular Lodge. The Lodge Officers Training program was designed to educate and test your knowledge of Lodge procedures, business, penal code, and other areas. Let There Be Light
