From the East
My Esteemed Brethren of Boca Delray Lodge No. 171,
As we wrap up the year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our officers, committeemen, and every Brother who has supported my administration. Your dedication and hard work have made this year truly memorable and successful. The spirit of brotherhood and cooperation we’ve fostered has been inspiring, and I am grateful to be part of this incredible Lodge.
We started the year facing significant challenges, with some Brothers disturbing and challenging the harmony of our Lodge. Yet, together and under my leadership, we persevered, restoring the harmony and happiness that define our Masonic community. This accomplishment is a testament to our shared values and unwavering commitment to each other and our beloved Lodge.
We have important events ahead, and I look forward to finishing the year strong. Mark your calendars for our November and December meetings and celebrations:
- 11/07/2024: Stated Communication
- 11/21/2024: Table Lodge (A fantastic opportunity to enjoy fellowship and Masonic tradition together)
- 12/05/2024: Stated Communication: Officer’s 2025 Election
- 12/09/2024: End of the Year Dinner at Maggiano’s (Let’s come together to celebrate a great year and enjoy a wonderful meal)
- 12/19/2024: Called Communication
Our Table Lodge and End of the Year Dinner at Maggiano’s are especially significant as they provide us with the chance to come together, reflect on the year, and share in the camaraderie that makes Freemasonry so special. I encourage all of you to participate and enjoy these events with your Brothers.
Looking forward, our Lodge elections on December 5th will be crucial as we prepare for the next Masonic year. Your participation is essential as we choose our future leaders who will carry forward our mission and values. Please make it a priority to attend this meeting and support our Lodge’s democratic process.
I also want to acknowledge our Brothers from Boca Delray Lodge who attended the Grand Master Official Visit (GMOV) for our district. We were represented with honor and strength by 12 Brothers and four ladies. During this event, I had the privilege of presenting M∴W∴ Don Cowart with the honorable perpetual membership on behalf of our Lodge and offering a posthumous honorary membership to Lady Dell Cowart, whose memory continues to inspire us. In addition, on behalf of our Lodge, I proudly donated $200 each to the M∴W∴ Grand Master’s and the First Lady’s projects. Our contributions will support these important causes and continue our tradition of charity and community service.
Highlights from Our Officers:
- From the West: Brother Nick Richard emphasizes the importance of Masonic Etiquette and reminds us of the proper treatment and display of our National Flag within the Lodge. As the holiday season approaches, he encourages everyone to continue enhancing their Masonic knowledge and participate actively in our Lodge events.
- From the South: Brother Eric Figueroa shares a profound message about the fulfillment found in serving others and connecting with our Brothers. He reminds us that the joy of Masonry comes from selflessness and genuine service.
- From the Secretary: R∴W∴ Mike Sinatra provides updates on dues and the financial health of our Lodge. He highlights the need for prompt payments and mentions ongoing repairs to our Lodge building. He also reminds us to sign our Masonic Membership cards properly and encourages electronic payment methods for convenience and accuracy.
- Chaplain’s Corner: W∴ Howard Zimmerman reflects on the balance between unity and diversity, drawing on the story of the Tower of Babel. He reminds us that while we may have differences, our shared values and commitment to the Great Architect of the Universe bind us together. His message is a reminder of our duty to love and support one another as Brothers.
Let us continue to support each other, grow together, and make the most of these last few months of the year. I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming meetings and celebrations.
Fraternally and sincerely,
Rafael Nioac de Salles

From the West
Greetings From the West Brethren!
Happy Halloween Bretheren!
It's Halloween while typing this email anyway. It's a fun holiday, I hope all of you are able to enjoy it with friends and family.
Let us also take a moment to enhance our Masonic knowledge. I encourage every Brother to revisit or explore our Masonic Etiquette, which you can access by clicking here: [Masonic Etiquette - GL208](https://www.grandlodgefl.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/GL-208-Masonic-Etiquette-Booklet-1.pdf).
The Flag:
"The National Flag should be on a standard placed in the East, in the corner to the Master’s right. It is improper to use the Flag as a drapery for the Altar, as bunting, or for decoration purposes, or in lieu of upholstery or as drapery on, or in, any of the chairs, seats, or stations of the Lodge Room. The Flag should be given precedence over a Lodge Banner, or any other banner, emblem, or device used for a similar purpose in the Lodge Room, in public processions, or when displayed on a Masonic building. If a Lodge Banner is used it should never be placed in the East-on or next to the Master’s dais C but behind either the Treasurer’s or the Secretary’s desk, preferably the latter."
As we approach more upcoming holidays, I look forward to seeing all of you at the lodge.
Fraternally,
Nick Richard Senior Warden

From the South
Greetings from the South Brethren!
“The most rewarding experience is to find yourself in other people.”
You find yourself in the best things given to you, in the life you have lived, exciting adventures of the mind opened to you by the fine minds who have awakened your mind, the riches of friendship given by those who walk with you, the sense of responsibility which has grown out of great tasks someone has given you to do, the lift of ideals given you by someone who held them high before you.
You find yourself in life’s gifts, not the least of which is Freemasonry. Perhaps the most rewarding experience you will ever have will be to find yourself in other people. You find yourself when you see other people with the sensitive eye and the sympathetic imagination. One of the never ceasing miracles of life occurs when a person, who has been all bound up in himself is suddenly released to find a self he never knew he has in response to the needs of another, in the occasion bring joy to another. Now...at this time...the best self emerges.
As always my Brothers, it is my honor and privilege to serve you. I look forward to our next meeting. God Bless.

From the Secretary
Fraternal greetings, Brethren.
2025 dues statements are in the process of being mailed out with a letter detailing payment methods. Your prompt payment is appreciated as the lodge depends on these funds to operate, assist Brothers who may need relief money as well as for building repairs. In fact we are in the process of replacing our main water feed line which is about 240 feet long from the water meter near the street. We just finished repairing a broken water pipe in the ladies restroom which was a costly repair. The lodge building is fifty years old and repairs are catching up with us.
We still have several Brothers who have not remitted their 2024 dues. This not only puts a financial burden on the Lodge but on all the other added work in sending members emails and letters. Their names will be read in lodge soon, if you recognize a name, please reach out and see if some encouragement is needed to retain the member.
At the recent Grand Master’s Official Visit, Boca Delray presented the Grand Master and his late wife, Honorary Memberships as well as donations to each of their charities which are presented to the Masonic Home. Each year improvements are made to the Home because of all past and present Grand Master’s and their Ladie’s charity income.
A note on your Masonic Membership card: Pease sign your card on the side vertical edge where it is written – Ne Varieur which is Latin and means "it must not be changed". It is often used as a notation on notarized documents or translations to indicate that the document must remain unchanged. It can also be used by treaty negotiators as a form of initialing on a document to indicate that the document is authentic. In short, your signature is required. The membership card is not valid without your signature.
Brethren, it is preferred if payments to the lodge be performed electronically. No cash must trade hands or bank deposits required all resulting in better documentation and accountability. Of course, cash payments and check are always welcomed. If you desire to pay electronically, below you will find the few methods of doing so.
Payment methods to Boca Delray Lodge No. 171:
1. By mailing a check to the address P.O. BOX 811113, Boca Raton, FL 33481-1113,

Chaplain's Corner
Greetings Brethren!
According to the Jewish calendar, last week we completed the last of the five Books of the Torah, the Book of Deuteronomy. We then roll the Torah scroll all the way back to Genesis and start the reading all over again. Two weeks into the readings, we read the story of Noah. After the legendary flood in which Noah, his family and the animals survived, the Tower of Babel was built by the unified human race to symbolize our unity of language and customs. According to the story (Genesis 11: 4-8), G-D decided instead to spread humans across the face of the Earth, diversifying our language (babble), our skin, our customs, but not our honor of the One True G-D.
He created diversity. He commanded diversity, in the face of a human tendency to conformity. Hence, the Tower of Babel was first created by people as a symbol of the unity of mankind. But it became associated with our diversity created by G-D. That symbol has enjoyed a rich tradition of varied storytelling and literature and artwork for over four thousand years. That design on the trestleboard of the Grand Architect has produced a world of hundreds of nations, thousands of dialects, and billions of people who consider themselves special souls. Each of us is unique. However, cut our skin, each of us bleeds the same.
We live in a constant vibration between our individuality and our similarity. This is a great theme of education, culture, our Constitution, our Nation, and our Craft. I see the many Masonic bodies from Shriners to DeMolay. I see the differences in aprons, in jewels, in what hand we hold the staff, and whether our thumbs are up or down. I see Masons shake their heads when they see something done a “different way”. I wonder if we, in our diversity, have lost sight of our unity. Then I look at the Lodge room, and I see a single letter G, however its meaning may vary. I see an altar in the center, however much the sacred book may be different. I see brothers, a perfect metaphor for people the same but different-meeting in seeming babble at times, and yet striving for unity in improving themselves and the world, and to implement the Divine design on the Trestleboard of the Future. Whether our labors are babbling, bubbling, bumbling, butchering, or beautifying, we are indeed caught in a web of striving to balance the commands to love ourselves and to love each other.
May the GAOTU continue to watch and protect all those in need. SMIB
Greetings my brethren.
