From the East

Brethren,
This month, many of our brethren and their families will observe Passover, a time that commemorates deliverance, perseverance, and the enduring strength of faith.
Likewise, Easter is celebrated by many as a season of renewal, sacrifice, and the triumph of light over darkness. Though these observances arise from different traditions, they share common themes of redemption, liberation, and hope—principles that resonate deeply with the teachings of Freemasonry.
As we continue our labors in the lodge, I'll take this opportunity to remind you that your annual dues are now due and payable. These dues are essential to the continued operation and well-being of our lodge. If you have already submitted your dues, please accept my sincere thanks. If not, I kindly ask that you make arrangements to do so at your earliest convenience.

From the West

Greetings from the West, Brethren,
As spring reminds us of renewal, so too should we renew our commitment to self-improvement, our Lodge, and our communities. April is a time to reflect, strengthen our bonds of brotherly love, and continue making our Lodge a place of light and learning.
I encourage you to attend our meetings and events—your presence brings the Craft to life.
Together, we build on the past and prepare for the future.
May this season inspire us to build not only better men, but a better world.
Fraternally,
Derik Brasher
Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren,
As we welcome the month of April, we are reminded of renewal, growth, and the strengthening of our labors both within and beyond the Lodge. Just as the season changes and brings new life, so too should we reflect on our own progress in Masonry—seeking improvement in our conduct, our knowledge, and our commitment to the Craft.
Let us continue to support one another in brotherly love and unity. Our shared efforts ensure the success of our Lodge, and your presence and participation make a meaningful difference. I encourage all brethren to attend our meetings, take part in fellowship, and assist where you are able.
As Junior Warden, I also remind everyone to take refreshment in moderation and to enjoy the fellowship that binds us together. The strength of our Lodge lies not only in our ritual work, but in the bonds we build outside the tiled doors.
May this month bring you and your families happiness, health, and continued light in Masonry.
Fraternally,
Jesse Mercado
Junior Warden

From the Secretary

Fraternal Greetings Brethren.
April will bear sadness up the lodge as we offer Masonic Funeral Services for our dearly departed R:.W:. Charles Fischer. Please keep an eye out for emails detailing times and dates.
Boca Delray was pleased to donate money to an optometrist office in Boca who had a little girl whose parents did not have the funds to purchases her eye glasses. We received a most pleasant letter from the optometrists telling us that the little girl now sees clearly and a new world surrounding her. Masonry at its best.
If you plan on attending Grand Lodge in Orlando this year, please inform me so that I can have you pre-registered to attend.
I am working on a complete list of all Boca Delray perpetual members since the inception of the program. The list is very impressive and will contain honorary and memorial memberships as well.
Boca Delray receives many membership inquires each month. When these gentlemen show up for lodge, please offer your handshake and welcoming words. Remember Brethren, we cannot re-do a poor first impression. Talk to them and answer their questions as you show them the lodge. Hospitality is a true Masonic virtue!
F&S,
R:.W:. Sinatra

Chaplain's Corner

Brethren,
When a High Ranked Brother Lays Down His Working Tools
We drape our lodge rooms for 30 days when a distinguished brother dies. We will mourn some for the rest of our lives. Sadly, a brother often passes on who we did not meet and never knew, and the mourning seems a bit disingenuous. What a mixed grill.
Shakespeare said that “parting is such sweet sorrow”. I think he meant that in paying farewell we often recognize the value of what is passing on, and perhaps it is only in parting that we give up our petty complaints and face our deep connection and appreciation.
Last month, a past Right Worshipful and brother of our lodge, Bro. Charlie Fischer, laid down his working tools. He was one perhaps not known to our newer members but he was an important figure in our lodge as he was our financial advisor. His funeral will take place on Friday April 10 at Kraeer Funeral Home in Coral Springs at noontime and burial at S. Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth at 2:00. Both, Boca Delray 171 and Cornerstone Lodge 416 will work together in the service.
Amid sadness, it is not easy to celebrate the wondrous parts of the lives now transformed. The choice is ours to keep alive the stories, the honor, the values, and all that we treasured in the earthly lives of those who have left us, the musing comrades. It takes courage to pull up roots, and to put them back. “Though lovers be lost, love is not.”
Alas my brother.
Fraternally,
W∴Howie Zimmerman
Chaplain

Historian's Corner

Boca-Delray Lodge No. 171 embodies more than a century of Masonic tradition in south Palm Beach County. Its roots reach back to the early days of Freemasonry in Florida and the development of our local communities. By exploring the history of the lodges that preceded it, we honor the legacy of the Brothers who built the foundation of our fraternity.
Freemasonry in Florida and Early Local Lodges
Freemasonry in Florida began in the early 1800s. The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of Florida was established in 1830 not long after Florida became a U.S. territory and then a state in 1845. Early lodges formed as settlers spread throughout the peninsula promoting fellowship moral development and community service.
Delray Lodge No. 171
In the early 20th century as the population of south Florida increased Freemasonry expanded to meet the needs of new communities. In 1908 the Grand Lodge of Florida chartered Delray Lodge No. 171 in what was then Dade County. The establishment of Delray Lodge marked an important milestone in organized Masonic activity in the area. It provided a place for Brothers to gather uphold ancient Masonic traditions and contribute to the civic and charitable life of the growing community.
Shortly afterward in 1909 the county lines were redrawn and Palm Beach County was created. Over the next decade the town we now call Delray Beach continued to grow and flourish as Freemasonry became a valued part of the social and cultural landscape.
Boca Raton Lodge No. 328
As the town of Boca Raton developed in the early 1900s and expanded significantly in the 1920s and beyond Boca Raton also became a center of Masonic activity. About fifty years after Delray Lodge was chartered the Grand Lodge of Florida chartered Boca Raton Lodge No. 328 to serve the growing community of Boca Raton and south Palm Beach County. This lodge too became a center for fellowship education and community service.
Although exact dates for the charter of Lodge No. 328 are less easily found online it was established approximately in the mid-20th century as Boca Raton’s population increased following World War Two. Local historians and lodge records can provide the precise year if needed.
The Merger and the Birth of Boca-Delray Lodge No. 171
By the late 20th century both lodges had long traditions but membership shifts and the desire to strengthen the fraternity in our area led to a major decision. The leadership and membership of Delray Lodge No. 171 and Boca Raton Lodge No. 328 agreed to unite their histories resources and membership into a single lodge. Nearly half a century after Boca Raton Lodge was chartered the two lodges merged under the historic lodge number 171. This united lodge took the name Boca-Delray Lodge No. 171 with its headquarters in Boca Raton.
In 2026 the lodge celebrated its 118th annual installation of officers, highlighting the longevity and continuity of Masonic tradition that continues unbroken from the original Delray Lodge through today’s Boca-Delray Lodge.
Today’s Lodge and Its Legacy
Today Boca-Delray Lodge No. 171 continues the work begun by Brothers more than a century ago. The lodge remains a center for fellowship education and service in Boca Raton and south Palm Beach County. As members we build on the principles that have stood the test of time: brotherly love relief and truth.
Understanding the dates and milestones that shaped our lodge helps us appreciate the depth of our heritage and the enduring spirit of Freemasonry in our community.
Fraternally,
Bro. Sam Goldstein Historian
