Brethren,

As we welcome the month of October, I am reminded of the beauty of change. The seasons shift, the days grow shorter, and nature prepares for renewal. In much the same way, Masonry calls us to continual reflection and improvement within ourselves. Each day is a chance to shed what no longer serves us and to cultivate the virtues that will carry us forward as better men and better Masons.

This month, let us be mindful of the lessons we have received within our degrees — that our time here is precious, and the true measure of our labor is not in material gain, but in the love, fellowship, and light we share with others.

I encourage each of you to stay engaged with the work of the Lodge. Whether through attending meetings, mentoring our newer Brothers, or simply checking in on one another, your presence and effort strengthen the bonds of our fraternity.

As the year begins its final quarter, let us rededicate ourselves to the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. May we continue to build not only our Lodge, but also our communities and our inner temples, upon a foundation that will endure long after the seasons change.

🗓 Upcoming Meetings at Boca Delray Lodge

From the West

Greetings from the West,

October is the month when most Lodges start sending out to the membership dues notices for the upcoming year. In my two years as Secretary for the Palm Beach York Rite it amazes me how many Brothers are misinformed on when Annual Dues are actually due and what is considered late. I have copied and pasted the Boca-Delray Lodge By-Law regarding annual dues.

BY-LAWS OF LODGES DUES

4.01 - Dues - Every member of this Lodge shall pay to the Secretary, for the use of the

Lodge, the sum of $$$ per annum plus the Grand Lodge Per-Capita Assessment, which

end on the 27th day of December of the following year, except life members, honorary

members and those members whose dues are remitted in accordance with Masonic Law. (2014)

BOCA DELRAY LODGE PAYMENT METHODS

From the South

ree

Greetings from the South, Brethren!

As we move into the Fall of the year, it is a good time for reflection.

With that, we have seen an increase from an average of 25 to 30 at the beginning of the year to now an average of 40 to 45 brothers enjoying our meals together.

We have also seen many more brothers staying after the meeting to enjoy dessert and good conversation.

I so appreciate the brothers who have stepped up to assist with serving the meals when needed.

It is my pleasure to serve you, my brothers!

"What we have done for ourselves alone,

dies with us; what we have done for others

and the world, remains and is immortal."

Fraternal Greetings Brethren,

Please attend our Grand Master, M:. W:. Taleb T. Atala’s official visit to the 25 th Masonic

District. To be held at 4000 RCA Blvd, Palm Beach Gardens 33410 at the Palm Beach

Gardens Marriott. Registration time 5:00 pm, Dinner 6:00 pm, meeting 7:00 pm.

There will also be a ladies program. Please refer to the attached flyer for detailed

information.

For those who have not paid their 2025 dues, you received a statement mid-October

2024, received two email late notices and a late notice letter. A few Brothers have

made calls urging a remittance. Please Brothers, don’t subject yourself to being

dropped for non-payment of dues. Interestingly enough, for the most part, it’s the same

Brother’s every year that wait until zero hour to pay dues.

Interesting fact that I just read. For those who know who Cab Calloway was, he

happened to be a Prince Hall Mason. A famous big band leader of the 30’s to 40’s at

the Cotton Club in Harlem New York City. If I told you that he was in the movie Blues

Brother’s you would know who I am talking about. He was the gentleman who the

Brothers went to see in the basement of the church and offered the brothers a drink and advice. He was also seen later in the movie doing his very famous skit “Minnie the

Moocher” while wearing a white tux.

Background investigation fees are now $17.00 dollars. This is the fee we are charged

by the agency performing the background, the lodge noes not add anything to the cost.

Please remember this cost when issuing a petition to a prospective member.

The Founding Story of Delray Lodge No. 171

On January 22, 1908, a new chapter in Florida Masonry was written with the chartering of Delray Lodge No. 171. What began as a gathering of just fifteen dedicated Masons quickly grew into one of the most enduring fraternal institutions in South Florida.

These founding members did not come solely from Delray’s sandy shores. They carried with them the legacies, customs, and traditions of lodges far beyond the young community’s borders—bringing together a remarkable blend of Masonic heritage.

A Brotherhood of Diverse Origins

The charter members of Delray Lodge hailed from some of the state’s most established lodges, including Fort Pierce No. 87, Indian River No. 90, and Harmonia No. 138. They were joined by brethren from Wenona No. 256 and Salina No. 155 in Michigan, Arkadelphia No. 381 in Arkansas, and even Benton Lodge No. 30 from the Indian Territory—what we know today as Oklahoma.

Each of these lodges represented not just geographic diversity but a wide spectrum of American Masonic experience. Michigan and Arkansas Masons brought with them the traditions of the northern and western jurisdictions. But it was the influence from the Indian Territory that gave Delray Lodge a truly historic connection to a unique chapter of Masonic history.

The Legacy of Benton Lodge No. 30

Before Oklahoma gained statehood in 1907, the Indian Territory was home to a vibrant Masonic community. Benton Lodge No. 30, under the Grand Lodge of the Indian Territory, was one of its notable members. Established when Native nations still governed their own lands, the lodge operated at a time when Freemasonry was deeply intertwined with Native American leadership.

Many of the territory’s most influential leaders—including Cherokee Chief John Ross, General Stand Watie, and Choctaw leader Peter Pitchlyn—were Freemasons. Their lodges were more than meeting halls; they were centers of diplomacy, education, and community life in a region where whites were initially barred from permanent settlement.

By 1874, the Grand Lodge of the Indian Territory had grown to include at least eight lodges, nearly all led by Native Masons. When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, the Grand Lodge of the Indian Territory merged with the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma. In this way, Benton Lodge’s heritage became part of the Masonic story of the new state—and, by extension, part of the DNA of Delray Lodge No. 171.

A Lodge Rooted in Tradition and Growth

When the fifteen charter members established Delray Lodge, they weren’t merely creating a new local body. They were blending Masonic traditions from across the American landscape. This melting pot of influences gave Delray Lodge a unique identity—firmly grounded in Florida, yet connected to the broader national and even Native-led Masonic story.

In the decades that followed, Delray Lodge would grow alongside the city of Delray Beach itself. Through hurricanes, wars, and waves of migration, the Lodge remained a steady anchor of fraternity, charity, and moral instruction. Its early foundation, built on such a diverse set of Masonic roots, gave it resilience and perspective uncommon among lodges of its era.

The Grand Lodge of Florida provides Master Mason Examinations to be open book type exams designed to give any Master Mason the opportunity to increase his knowledge of some of the Ancient Tenets, Rules, and Regulations of Masonry. They contain a mixture of multiple choice, True or False, or essay questions which should be answered on the answer sheet, as provided in the exam downloads.

The Grand Lodge of Florida encourages all members of the Craft to further their knowledge of Lodge operation, especially those concerning the Elected and Appointed

Officers of each particular Lodge. The Lodge Officers Training program was designed to educate and test your knowledge of Lodge procedures, business, penal code, and other areas. Let There Be Light
