From the South

Greetings from the South, Brethren!
Having just returned from Grand Lodge;
It was a privilege to be the JW representative of Boca-Delray Lodge #171,
and to sit within a sea of good men representative of our Brotherhood.
Our amazing Brother Benjamin Cohen received his Gold Card!
We appreciate this Brother who has contributed so much time and effort to our Lodge.
The Grand Lodge proceedings leave us with confidence
that all is in good order for now and for the future.
Each one of you is a valued component of our Lodge and I appreciate serving as your J.W..
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

From the Secretary

Fraternal Greetings Brothers. I certainly hope that you had a pleasant Memorial Day
Weekend and kept in mind the reason that we have Memorial Day. The countless
American and Allied military servicemen and women as well as loyal guerrilla fighters
and resistance who gave up their lives for a Free and Democratic Society. The unsung
heroes, The Merchant Marines, War Correspondents, doctors and nurses, who also lost
their lives in the defense of freedom. Let their selfless acts always be remember and
honored.
On Memorial Day I also honor all those who were severely injured and have little quality
of life. These men and women, under certain circumstances can be worse off than
deceased.
When I was in the service during the Vietnam Conflict, my hero was Carlos Hathcock,
US Marine Gunnery Sargent sniper in Vietnam. At that time, there were no sniper
schools or sophisticated specialized sniper rifles. He used a Winchester Model 70
30/06 with a ten-power scope; a rifle still used today for hunting. He had 93 confirmed
kills and undertook missions that he was told he may not walk out of. Reading “Marine
Sniper, a story about him is a worthwhile read. Gunnery Sargent Hathcock had to be
discharged from the Corp due to his personal battle of Multiple Sclerosis and passed in
1999. He is most respected for his humility and dedication in protecting his fellow
Marines.
I am happy to say that I have been able to return to lodge after a long hiatus due to my
wife’s health. She is recuperating nicely but still has a long way to go. Her immunity
system was compromised, and we had to limit our exposure to others. Getting back
to the Secretaries desk at the East on the second meeting of May was certainly a
pleasure and I thank all the Brother’s who assisted and stood in for me.
Our recent District Deputy’s official visitation and review of our lodge’s business
practices went very well. W:. Denton, as Treasurer, has taken our accounting practices
to what I would consider a semi-professional level. The Treasurer just doesn’t pay bills
any longer. He can pull up any account and in seconds tell us what funds we have in
each account, how much we have spent on charity, repairs, operating expenses etc.
Our financial records are all electronic and in line with the 21 st Century.
Knowing this, it is important for a Brother to understand that when in lodge and he
wishes to make any motion where money is to be donated or spent on a fundraiser,
unbudgeted repairs etc,, he must first ask the Treasurer if we have the funds available
to support his motion. Once a positive answer is received, then the motion can be
presented.
Now that Grand Lodge is behind us, we have the honor and pleasure of having W:.
Demetrios Kirkiles as our District Deputy. Congratulations R:. W:. Kirkiles, looking
forward to your official visitation and wishing you the best of luck.
For those Brothers who have not paid their 2025 lodge dues, First Late notices were
emailed out on May 21st. Please help the lodge function by remitting dues; remember
the obligations you have taken to pay dues promptly and to help reduce the amount of
time the secretary spends on delinquent members.
In closing Brethren, please continue your engagement and participation with the lodge
and District activities. Our lodge is gaining strength and with a number of seasoned
Mason’s joining our lodge we have a wealth of information and experience to lean on.

Chaplain's Corner

Greetings Brethren!
The Importance of Visiting Other Lodges
Visiting other Lodges is beneficial for social reasons, but, as in ancient times, it should also be done with a desire to enlarge one's Masonic knowledge and experience, to share their spiritual privileges, or even to bring spiritual reinforcement to Lodges needing such help. No practice is more beneficial than intercourse between those of different Lodges engaged in a common work, and no right is more firmly established than that of any seeker of the Light to claim and be given hospitality and assistance conducting to that end. But our modern practice of mass-visiting often disturbs the true work we ought to be doing, and is somewhat of an abuse and travesty of a privilege dating from antiquity, when occasional representatives of one school of the Mysteries journeyed, often long distances, to another in a different land to enlarge their own knowledge or impart it to those they visited.
May the GAOTU continue to watch over all those in need wherever so dispersed all over the world. SMIB
Fraternally,
W∴ Howard Zimmerman

LANDMARKS OF FREEMASONRY
Based on Article XIII, Section 2 of the 2023 Digest of Masonic Law of Florida, the following are recognized as Landmarks of Freemasonry by the Grand Lodge of Florida:
Belief in the existence of one ever living and true God.
Belief in the immortality of the human soul and a resurrection to a Future Life.
The Volume of the Sacred Law, open upon the Altar, is an indispensable furnishing of every regular Lodge while at labor.
The Legend of the Third Degree.
Secrecy, which includes:
Words, signs, and tokens for recognition,
That every Lodge must be duly tyled,
Examination or avouchment of visitors,
Matters that cannot be written.
Symbolism of the Operative Art.
Qualifications of Candidates:
Must be a man, free born, of lawful age,
Of good repute and well recommended,
Without physical defects that inhibit learning or advancement (unless Dispensation is granted).
The division of Ancient Craft Masonry into three classifications:
Entered Apprentice,
Fellow Craft,
Master Mason.
Government by a presiding officer titled Grand Master, elected from the Craft, with prerogatives including:
Presiding over all assemblies of Masons in his jurisdiction,
Supervising and regulating Masonic affairs between Grand Lodge Communications,
Granting Dispensations,
Making a Mason at sight.
The necessity for Freemasons to congregate in Lodges.
These Landmarks are foundational and binding within Florida Freemasonry, although the Grand Lodge reserves the right to amend or reconsider them by appropriate constitutional means.
The Grand Lodge of Florida developed this comprehensive course of study to instruct Brothers on the proper procedures and responsibilities of each Lodge Officer, and how to conduct the important business of their particular Lodge. Courses are presented by the District Chairman, and a certificate is issued upon successful completion of all 15
modules.
The Grand Lodge of Florida provides Master Mason Examinations to be open book type exams designed to give any Master Mason the opportunity to increase his knowledge of some of the Ancient Tenets, Rules, and Regulations of Masonry. They contain a mixture of multiple choice, True or False, or essay questions which should be answered on the answer sheet, as provided in the exam downloads.
The Grand Lodge of Florida encourages all members of the Craft to further their knowledge of Lodge operation, especially those concerning the Elected and Appointed
Officers of each particular Lodge. The Lodge Officers Training program was designed to educate and test your knowledge of Lodge procedures, business, penal code, and other areas. Let There Be Light
